Fine Food and Hospitality Photographer
Hello, I’m Sue Todd and I guess if you’ve reached this page you want to know a bit more about me and what I do, so here goes …
Here are a few facts that you may or may not know about me:
- I got my first camera aged 13 and my first pro cameras aged 18.
- I live in the beautiful Northumberland countryside and have done for approximately 30 years now.
- I’m married to Gary after starting school together aged 4 – we’ve been married for 35 years now.
- I have two fabulous grown-up sons who I’m immensely proud of.
- I’m addicted to cameras and photography.
- After cameras, software and stationery are the next must-have things in my life.
- I’m a bit of a foodie and blog haphazardly – new link to an updated blog to come soon.
- I used to run a catering kitchen – very successfully, taking it from running at a loss to running at 70% GP and full every day.
- I’ve been partially deaf since childhood and now have a BAHA hearing aid – and some interesting conversations when I’m not wearing it I can tell you!
Based in North Northumberland I’m surrounded by fabulous scenery and I’m blessed with the most fantastic inspirational views all around my home-based studio.
During my years in IT before I finally followed my dream, I got to work in all kinds of things, from general e-commerce to really high tech computer simulation using haptics and VR – I even got to go and play with NASA in San Francisco which was pretty cool.
I worked for a time in the catering industry, starting off at Lumley Castle Hotel and ending some years later after running a very successful catering kitchen down in Essex, so my knowledge of the hospitality trade is quite thorough too.
This is Ted, my cocker spaniel. This was taken a few years ago on Ted’s first trip to the beach, he was so in awe he had to sit down and have a howl – this was him mid-howl. He was so funny.
Did you know?

A little bit about what I do ….
I wanted to work as a photographer for as long as I can remember, getting my first pro cameras when I was 18. I did say I was a gear junkie – one never was enough.
Life got somewhat in the way, closely followed by children and I wound up in IT and stayed there for a lot of years. My years in IT grew into more and more photography work and less and less IT – for which I was eternally thankful.
In 2014 I finally got the opportunity to follow my dream and set off on my new adventure as Sue Todd Photography and haven’t looked back.
What my past experience brings to my work now
I worked in hospitality in my teenage years and went on to work for what was then Grand Metropolitan running pubs/restaurants in Essex after a spell working for Lumley Castle Hotel. So I’m well versed in the hospitality trade and its needs.
My years in IT mean that I’ve worked with a huge mix of clients and different professions over the years. From big name brands like Bayer Pharma, E.ON and Legal & General to tiny companies from healthcare and the pharmaceutical industry through to food, products and fitness among many others, I’ve worked with all sorts of people and circumstances both in and around the UK and abroad.
This vast experience is something I draw upon regularly whether its background knowledge of a particular market or industry or whether its linked to branding and corporate identity and it really helps me to prepare clients for their shoots and help them explore possibilities.
Why I think professional photography is so important to any brand
Exceptional images are a necessity for all businesses today, it’s a tough market and I can’t stress enough how important it is that your images reflect your brand and voice, are directed and orchestrated for your client and that they tell the right story. A consistent approach is also needed across your website, your social media, your printed materials and advertising.
I like my work to tell a story, that story could be about your brand, your food, your venue, your events or your people.
Capturing moments, emotions, beautiful light and intricate details is what I do best, most of all I like to work with my clients to provide great imagery for them.
What I can bring to your project
I offer exceptional customer service and provide high-quality images in print and web resolution direct to my clients via their own private gallery. I have many repeat clients and its always a joy to work with them.
I can work on location with you or if its product photography you need a great number of my clients just courier their products
I love the variety that my work entails and I’m always ready for a challenge too.
We are blown away!! They look absolutely fantastic.Aidan Patterson
